Editorial Policy
PickLoot is a small, independent team. Here's exactly how we put a guide together, so you know what you're reading and what you're not.
How we research a guide
We are not a lab, and we don't claim to have personally tested every product we cover — if we ever do hands-on testing, we say so explicitly in that guide. Our default process is research-based: we compare manufacturer specifications, cross-reference bestseller and category rankings from major retailers, and read through a wide sample of public buyer reviews to identify recurring praise and recurring complaints. We look for patterns that show up across many buyers, not a single five-star or one-star review.
From that research, we narrow a category down to a handful of picks that genuinely differ on price, features, or use case, and explain the trade-offs plainly — including picks we'd steer some readers away from and why.
Who writes these guides
Guides are written and researched by the PickLoot editorial team. We don't publish under invented personal bylines with fabricated credentials — when a guide doesn't name an individual writer, it was produced by the team as a whole, following this same process.
How often guides are updated
Product lineups, prices, and availability change. Each guide shows a "last updated" date; we revisit guides periodically to swap out discontinued products, correct errors, and update pricing language, and we adjust that date whenever we make a substantive change (not for minor typo fixes).
How we make money, and how that does and doesn't shape a guide
PickLoot may earn a commission when you buy something through a link on this site — see our full affiliate disclosure. That commission has no bearing on which products we choose to include or how favorably we describe them: we'd rather have a smaller number of guides we stand behind than a larger number padded with picks that don't belong.
Corrections
If you spot something inaccurate or out of date — a discontinued product, a wrong spec, a price that's badly out of sync with the retailer's page — tell us on the contact page and we'll look into it.
